Community Action Stops Abuse (CASA)

Founded in 1977, CASA is the official 501c3 domestic violence center based in Pinellas County, FL. We operate the area’s 24-hour hotline and emergency shelter; non-residential programs, such as support groups, economic empowerment and legal advocacy; Child Protective Investigative Team support; community and corporate training; and the CASA Peacemakers anti-bullying and healthy relationship school curriculum.

POSITION TITLE: Justice Advocate 1

Major & Essential Functions: To provide criminal and civil advocacy to survivors of domestic violence and their children.

Work Environment Expectations: This position operates within a shared professional office environment and regularly requires travel to court, partner agencies, and other off-site locations in support of legal services. The role involves a combination of office-based work and participation in legal and court proceedings, requiring flexibility, mobility, and frequent interaction with staff, clients, and external stakeholders.

Additional Position Responsibilities:

  • Attend DV related court hearings to identify survivors in the courtroom and offer services and support.
  • Review police reports and reach out to survivors to offer services.
  • Work collaboratively with the State Attorney Office, the Clerk of the Courts, Law Enforcement organizations, Child Protection, and all other community partners to enhance victim safety and perpetrator accountability.

  • Facilitate support groups and workshops as requested by your supervisor.
  • Attend and participate in case conferences, staff meetings, trainings, community meetings and presentations as requested by your supervisor.
  • Provide assistance to any program areas at CASA as requested by management.
  • Assist in providing coverage in other program areas as requested by management.

General Duties:

  • Attend and participate in CASA staff meetings, required trainings, and special projects designated by supervisor.
  • Attend and participate in ongoing training opportunities.
  • Assist with training and supervision of volunteers/interns.
  • Complete special projects and presentations as requested.
  • Keep supervisor informed of successes, barriers, concerns, and performance issues.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent education/life experience preferred, or a minimum of one-year proven success in a current CASA direct service position,
  • Experience working with survivors of domestic violence or other crisis related experience preferred.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current community resources and have the ability to maintain working relationships with agencies.
  • Agree to drive agency vehicles as needed.
  • Ability to function independently and work cooperatively as a member of a team.
  • Possess a valid Florida State Driver’s License to be verified on an annual basis.
  • Possess the ability to climb stairs and lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Agree to participate in a background check upon employment.
  • Agree to participate in a drug screening.
  • Agree to work a flexible schedule when required, which may include changing schedules to ensure case management coverage, due to illness, absence, vacation other staff members, or a natural disaster.
  • All positions are considered essential and as such may be required to be available to remain onsite and/or required to assist during emergencies and other critical times.
